Acute and Chronic Cholecystitis Cholecystitis is the inflammation of the gallbladder, in 80% of the cases it’s a result in the presence of choleliths (gallstones) in the gallbladder (cholelithiasis). In 20% of people they can even present/display this problem without having choleliths.
When the symptoms becomes acute, the pain is generally located in the upper area of the abdomen on the right side, which runs towards the back after eating any greasy or lactose foods. It can be accompanied by nausea and vomiting, sometimes fever and yellowish discoloration of the eyes or skin (jaundice). The pain can diminish, nevertheless that does not indicate that your cured, it only indicates that the symptom was solved temporarily. In some patients the pain does not go away and can present/display complications like gangrene or perforation of the gallbladder worsening the problem. Diagnosis is confirmed with an Ultrasound (echo), in which the gallstones will be observed. The definitive treatment as for both the acute or chronic Cholecystitis is the extirpation of the gallbladder through laparoscopic surgery. An opportune treatment is necessary to avoid further complications.
