What is the Duodenal Switch?
The Duodenal Switch (Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch, BPD-DS) combines two mechanisms:
- 1. Gastric sleeve component — 70% of the stomach is removed (creating restriction)
- 2. Intestinal bypass — most of the small intestine is bypassed, reducing fat and calorie absorption
This dual restriction + malabsorption produces the highest weight loss and highest diabetes remission of all bariatric procedures. It is the gold standard for patients with extreme obesity (BMI 50-60+) or uncontrolled metabolic disease.
SADI-S (Single Anastomosis Duodenal Switch) is a modern simplified version with one intestinal connection instead of two — faster surgery, similar results, slightly fewer complications. We offer both versions.
